HOUSE burglaries in Stockton are at a thirty-year low.

From April last year to last month, there were 1,370 house burglaries committed across the borough.

This figure is believed to be the lowest since the 1970s.

Chief Superintendent Dave Pickard, Cleveland Police's district commander for the town and chairman of the Safer Stockton Partnership, said: "We are absolutely delighted to get to this level, which is the equivalent of less than four burglaries a day over the whole of Stockton, Billingham, Thornaby and Yarm."

Mike Batty, head of community protection at Stockton Borough Council, said Stockton's overall crime rate was the best in the Tees Valley.
