A BIKER caught doing 130mph was stopped just 24 hours later doing 107mph on the same stretch of the A19.

David Robinson, 24, thought he had "nothing to lose" when he went out on his Honda Fireblade the day after being caught by police.

Robinson, of Westbrook Avenue, Hartlepool, was on the A19 at Leake Church, near Thirsk, North Yorkshire, shortly before 2pm on Saturday, March 19, when he was clocked at 130.6mph.

Just 24 hours later, he was stopped at Silton. He had been doing an average speed of 107.5mph over nine miles.

At Northallerton Magistrates' Court yesterday, he admitted both speeding charges.

Joan Smith, in mitigation, said he was a competent rider who had not put any other road users in danger.

She said he had a lot on his mind at the time, including his relationship with his girlfriend, and went out on his bike to "let loose".

"He understands the seriousness of the offences and the speeds that he was doing and considers himself to be stupid," she said.

"He went out again on the second day because he did not think he had anything to worry about.

"He accepts that that was very foolish. He thought he had nothing to lose.

"He wanted to get as much use of his bike as possible."

Magistrates put 12 penalty points on his licence, meaning he is banned from driving for six months, fined him £500 and ordered him to pay costs of £45.

A police spokesman said: "Travelling at these excessive speeds on a public road is totally irresponsible, and this case sends out a clear message to motorists who think they can get away with it in North Yorkshire.

"In five weeks since the offences were committed, the man has received a six-month ban, which shows that fast-tracking these cases through the courts is working.

"We will continue with the policy of fast-tracking throughout the summer."
