Three drivers had a lucky escape after an accident on a County Durham road.

The incident happened at the Winston crossroads on the A67 between Barnard Castle and Darlington happened this morning at around 10.30am.

It involved A Volkswagen Passatt, a Peugeot 306 and a Nissan Almera.

Sergeant Bill Dutton of Barnard Castle police said: "It looked a lot worse than it actually was.

"I believe one of the cars overturned.

"There were no serious injuries and nobody was taken to hospital.

"We are investigating the cause of the collision to see if there is any case for criminal proceedings."
