THE comedy team behind the BBC hit programme The League of Gentlemen is coming to the North-East later this year.

The comedians are going on a 22-date national tour with their new act, The League of Gentlemen Are Behind You, and will perform in Sunderland and Newcastle.

The tour will follow a busy summer for the show's writers - Mark Gatiss, originally from School Aycliffe, County Durham, Steve Pemberton, Jeremy Dyson and Reece Shearsmith.

Their characters cross over to the big screen next month with the release of their first feature film, The League of Gentlemen's Apocalypse, on June 3.

The team's previous live show, A Local Show for Local People, enjoyed a six-week run at London Theatre Royal and received an Olivier Award nomination for Best Entertainment in 2002.

Tickets for the shows at Newcastle City Hall on Tuesday, November 8, and Sunderland Empire on Friday, November 11, go on sale tomorrow.
