A SYNTHETIC outdoor sports pitch is due for improvements costing £20,350.
It is 11 years since the all-weather pitch was laid at Rossett Sports Centre in Pannal Ash, Harrogate.
But wear and tear from the feet of thousands of footballers, hockey players and other sports enthusiasts has taken its toll.
Councillor Pat Jones, Harrogate Borough Council's cabinet member for leisure, has agreed to the work to protect the surface from further damage and extend its life for the next ten years.
Work on improving the surface will take place during the summer holiday from August 15 to 26 to minimise loss of income to the council and lessen disruption to Rossett High School and the sports centre.
Coun Jones said work was necessary to reduce the amount of cancelled bookings when the weather was bad.
