A CIVIC reception has been held for a woman who has dedicated more than 40 years of her life to a Darlington estate.
Joyce Standing has held posts on committees and groups serving the people of Skerne Park. Darlington Mayor Stella Robson made a presentation to Mrs Standing as a thank you for her hard work.
Mrs Standing was secretary of Skerne Park Youth and Community Centre from 1984 until this year. She was joint-treasurer of the centre for three years. She was a member of Darlington's first residents' association, formed in 1988, and was chairwoman for 14 years.
Mrs Standing, who was jointly named Darlington Citizen of the Year in 1996, also played an important role in the Skerne Park Community Action Group, the Skerne Park Partnership and the Skerne Park Enterprise.
