Foster's Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League: Swalwell are the new leaders after they defeated Sacriston and previous incumbents Leadgate lost a low-scoring game to Shotley Bridge.

There was no stopping Swalwell though, who were asked to meet a stiff target after Harry Hubber (83) and Tony Claughan (37) had led Sacriston to an impressive 218 for five.

Mark Cosgrove proved to be the match winner.

The Australian batted throughout for an unbeaten 139 leading his side to a six-wickets victory and to the top of the table.

Leadgate conceded their unbeaten record when they were all out for just 56 at home to Shotley Bridge, for whom David Love and Neil Burdon shared six wickets, conceding only six runs between them.

Despite facing an extremely low total, the Bridge lost five wickets, four of them to Masood Mirza for 29 runs.

Ashington are joint second with Leadgate following a 46-runs victory at home to Benwell and Walbottle.

Captain David Rutherford, who missed the first three games, has hardly put a foot wrong since his return and he contributed a top-scoring 73, which together with 68 by Dale Ross, propelled the Colliers to 242 for eight.

While Latif (85) was at the wicket the visitors were in with a chance but following his dismissal the innings closed four runs short of 200.

Newcastle City remain fourth after being pressed all the way at Annfield Plain where they secured victory with their last pair at the wicket.

When Graeme Britton took five wickets and David Baxter three, the initiative was with the Plain, but Ahmed, batting at number nine contributed an unbeaten 19 and number 10 batsman Khan 27.

Singh was again in outstanding form in the City attack capturing six wickets for just 16 runs as the home side stuttered to 134 all out.

Scott Kay was man-of-the-match in Tynedale's narrow victory over Lanchester.

He hit an attractive 74 and 42 apiece by Ian Riccalton and David Holt enabled the home team to pass the 200 mark.

Farukh Iqbal (66) and Kevin Dixon senior (42) led Lanchester's reply but when Kay took six wickets at a cost of 65 runs, they fell 18 runs short of a winning margin.

Ponteland had 45 runs in hand of Burnopfield, who were without Durham County's Neil Killeen.

Malcolm Clarke, professional at Burnopfield last season, scored 116 against his former colleagues as Ponteland made the highest score of the day, 278 for eight.

Half centuries from Marcus Peart and Ryan McVittie kept Burnopfield in the hunt and Lee Davey ended unbeaten on 49.

Nevertheless, when the overs expired the visitors were only 234 for seven.

Lintz made it six wins out of six in Division Two, defeating Seaton Burn by seven wickets, despite Leroy Lezana hitting 130 of Burn's total of 220 for nine.

Gordon Baker with 81 and Stuart Clennell (61 not out) then steered Lintz to yet another victory.
