THE family of a heavily pregnant teenager, who police believe may have run off with her boyfriend, last night pleaded for her to come home.

Nicola Vanghi, who is due to give birth in the next fortnight, has not been seen for more than two weeks.

The 16-year-old left her home in Deorna Court, Darlington, which she shares with her mother, on May 27.

Detectives believe she may be with her 17-year-old boyfriend, Gavin Robert McCallum, and could be living rough or sleeping in a tent in the town.

A girl fitting Nicola's description was seen going into a bar in Darlington town centre last Thursday.

Last night, Nicola's family stressed to The Northern Echo that Nicola would not be in trouble when she returned home. The family - including her two brothers, aged 17 and six - were increasingly concerned for her safety.

Sergeant Andy Gore, of Darlington police, said: "Neither Nicola nor Gavin are wanted for any offences we are aware of and our over-riding concern is her health. The fact that Nicola does not appear to have sought medical attention with the birth imminent is an added concern."

He added: "The couple have to eat and use toilet facilities, so any member of the public who sees them at a caf, newsagents, community centre, leisure complex or public house, or is aware of anyone sleeping rough in their area, should get in touch. We need to know she is safe and well."

The teenager is 5ft 4in, with shoulder-length brown hair, tied into a ponytail. She was wearing hoop earrings and a silver necklace and has a half-inch scar on her forehead.
