THE owners of a North-East call centre that is recruiting 100 staff yesterday promised more jobs are to come.

The Albany Group, which provides legal expense road accident insurance services, is hiring 100 workers at its centre in Peterlee, County Durham. The move will take the workforce at its site on the Bracken Hill Business Park to 400.

Albany was bought by Helphire last October for £47m.

Hugh Jackson, Helphire's chief executive, said: "The company is growing fast.

"Our other call centre is at our headquarters in Bath and that is pretty full. So our main area for further expansion is the North-East.

"Albany has performed very well and exceeded our expectations. We will be taking on more staff and expanding the operation."

The Helphire yesterday reported pre-tax profits for the year ending March 31 had doubled to £14.8m.

Turnover rose 57 per cent to £118m. Its debt rose from £23.8m to £60m, but included the finance for Albany.
