SCHOOL pupils were put through their paces by the Army yesterday.

A total of 11 teams took part in the annual Green Howards adventurous activities competition at Richmond Castle, in North Yorkshire.

Each team of ten undertook tests of their physical and mental skills.

The youngsters attempted an assault course, took part in a mountain bike grand national and negotiated a rope slide. There was also games of football, cricket, basketball and a quiz at the Green Howard Museum.

The event was organised by No. 122 Army Youth Team (Green Howards) and the Richmondshire sports development team, with help from the Green Howards Museum, the King's Division recruiting team and Cleveland Orienteering Club.

Roger Chapman, from the Green Howards Museum, said: "This is the seventh year we have held this exciting competition, which provides a great day out for the teams."

For the second year, the competition was won by a team from Teesdale School, in Barnard Castle.
