BRANDON United FC is preparing to launch youth teams but is still on the look-out for extra sponsorship.

The Arngrove Northern League side recently appealed for help in running its affairs and several people have volunteered, averting the club's possible resignation from the league and its disbandment.

Along with helpers supporting the senior team, there has been an influx of people interested in youth football.

The club will offering boys and girls aged five to 12 the opportunity to play football.

A club spokesman said: "As well as teams competing at the eight, nine and 11-year-old age groups, the club will also field a team at under-18 age level within the Russell Foster Youth Leagues.

"It is hoped that over a period of time the club will field teams at all age groups, including a number of teams for girls.

"The senior team managers, Alan Shoulder and Steve Howey, together with Bert-Jan Heijmans, from the Netherlands, who now lives in Brandon and is a qualified and well-respected coach, will work as a team to develop all players within the club."

The club has no debt problems, but income from its social club has dropped, prompting the search for more sponsors.

"No major new sponsor has yet been found, but new ideas are being worked upon and local business people will be approached for help,'' the spokesman said.

The club will hold an open night at the Brandon United clubhouse on Friday, July 22, from 7.30pm for all players, parents, supporters, sponsors and helpers to meet and discuss future plans.

Anyone interested in joining the club, in any capacity, or who wants more information is welcome to attend. Chairman Neil Scott can be contacted on 0191-526 8536 for more information.
