The three main elements of the Nature’s World project will be: i) ‘DIG for FUN’ Encouraging local urban people to try to grow something!

The war time campaign ‘Dig for Victory’ was phenomenally successful in getting people to grow food. This growing campaign is less serious so we are calling it ‘Dig for Fun’.

Options, which are all being demonstrated at Nature’s World include: a) Square Foot gardening. Pioneered in the USA but ideal for small backyards or window boxes!

b) Mini-allotments and allotments. Start small and expand as you learn and become more ambitions!

c) Plant or adopt-a-fruit tree. Grow fruit and help to counter climate change – a double benefit!

ii) Encouraging people to buy local and seasonal produce and to eat healthily This element of the project will focus on promoting the economic and environmental benefits of buying locally produced, seasonal produce which has not travelled from the other side of the world!

Seasonal ‘theme days’ will be featured at the Nature’s World Farmers’ Market – held on the last Sunday of each month. The January market on Sunday 31st January 2010, from 10.00 am – 2.00 pm will incorporate our ‘Potato theme day’ – offering customers advice on growing potatoes and the opportunity to select and buy from up to 29 varieties of seed potatoes. Our Tearooms will also be serving leek and potato soup and jacket potatoes with a range of tasty fillings.

iii) Developing an exciting new active outdoor family activity arena The huge grass amphitheatre at Nature’s World is being developed to offer: • Family Den building challenges • Kite building workshops • Model boat building challenges • Army-type assault course • Pedal Go-kart racing • Football and ball games areas The target is to launch the new arena for Easter 2010.
