FAMILY and friends of a gifted banker, who leapt to his death from a rooftop restaurant, have set up a memorial trust in his name.

Oxford graduate Anjool Malde jumped 80ft from the roof terrace of upmarket restaurant Coq d’Argent, in London, on July 5, last year.

His parents, Naina and Bharat, who live in Yarm, near Stockton, have, with the help of their son’s closest friends, David Langer, Irra K and Ravi Chopra, set up the Anjool Malde Memorial Trust.

They hope it will support a variety of causes and initiatives that Anjool was passionate about.

Mr Malde said: “His death has left a completely devastating hole in our lives and we are trying to go forward and use the trust as our focal point.

“It means a lot to us to and it’s going to reward and inspire talent – something Anjool stood for.”

Anjool, a former pupil at Conyers and Egglescliffe schools, earned a place at Oxford University, wrote for student newspapers, and joined BBC Oxford as a radio presenter and journalist.

Soon after graduating, aged 20, he cofounded events company Alpha Parties, and later went to work for Deutsche Bank, in London.

His death came days after his employers launched an investigation into an internet prank on a financial website.

His parents said at the time of his death: “Anjool lived a short but rich and memorable life, and we would like to extend our deep appreciation to all those who, over the recent harrowing days, have helped us and comforted us.”

Two initiatives have been selected to benefit from the Anjool Malde Memorial Trust – UK Student Personality of the Year at the 2010 Real World awards and the Anjool Malde Prize for Student Journalism at Oxford University.
