POLICE have launched a murder investigation after a man's body was found in a house.
The incident occurred at the property on Stanley Street, North Shields.
A police spokesman said a call was received from someone concerned about the welfare of the man at around 1.40am on Thursday.
On arrival, police discovered the body of a man in his 50s.
He has not been named as police are attempting to trace next of kin.
The spokeswoman said the death was being treated as suspicious and a 20-year-old local man had been arrested on suspicion of murder.
