A NORTHERN edition of one of the world’s most famous board games will hit the shops this month.

More than 30 landmarks will feature on the County Durham edition of Monopoly, which will go on sale on October 30.

The Northern Echo will occupy the square given on the London version to Fleet Street, the traditional home of the British newspaper industry.

Monopoly spokesman Graham Barnes said: “We are keeping the identities of the site holders under our Monopoly top hats and close to our community chests until the launch.

“The only two we can confirm are Sedgefield Racecourse, where it will be launched, and The Northern Echo will be in the place of Fleet Street.”

To launch the version, Monopoly owner Hasbo is sponsoring the 3.50pm race at Sedgefield Racecourse’s meeting on Tuesday, November 10.

The game will be on sale for about £25
