DETAILS have today been announced of a major public art event which will centre on North-East landmark Roseberry Topping.

Odin’s Glow will involve a spectacular illumination of the hill, along with a number of specially commissioned installations involving art, sound, light, music and performing arts along with several community events.

All the events will be staged at the foot of the hill in the village of Newton under Roseberry, near Guisborough.

The event will celebrate the Viking heritage of the area. The hill was original named after Odin – deemed the most important of all Viking gods – and was a place of worship to Odin the god of battle.

A spokesperson for the project said: "It will give visitors to the area a chance to see the breathtaking scenery and experience one of the many exciting events the Tees Valley has to offer."

Odin’s glow has been put together by Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council and will be a free family event accessed via a park and ride system for which there will be a small charge.

No cars will be allowed into the village so the park and ride system is the only way in and out.

The event takes place on the evenings of Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday Oct 22, 23, 24 and 25.

On application for tickets people will be given a time slot which will include the time of departure from the park and ride point and a time for pick up in the village. Disabled people should explain any special access needs when booking for a ticket. All children under 18 must to be accompanied by an adult.

Tickets are available on-line at www.arconline.co.uk or by phone on 01642-525199.
