A COUNCILLOR has criticised a local authority for failing to inform residents about road works.
Mamie Simmons, a Liberal Democrat councillor for Newton Hall, Durham, said she was disappointed Durham County Council had not delivered leaflets to homes about major works on the housing estate.
The junction leading to the estate is closed for the installation of traffic lights and traffic diversions are in place.
Coun Simmons said: "I’m disappointed that residents haven’t been given enough information."
She has put details into the estate’s library and community centre.
A council spokeswoman said signs publicising the road closure were put in place two weeks before work started and nearby Frawellgate School Durham was notified.
She said shops and nearby properties were also notified and notices placed at affected bus stops.
While the work continues, bus services will be diverted and a shuttle service will operate. For full details, see durham.gov.uk
