EXPELLED pupils are on course to be taught in a first class school, plans the building have revealed.

Members of the public are being asked for their views on proposals for Ashdale Pupil Referral Unit, proposed as part of Middlesbrough’s £100m Building Schools for the Future programme.

It would see the campus move from Marton Road to a new site along side Parkwood School in Sulby Avenue.

The unit provides schooling for pupils who have been excluded from other establishments with a view to returning them to mainstream education.

The single-storey building has been designed to accommodate up to 45 pupils aged between 14 and 16.

Details and drawings of the new Ashdale Pupil Referral Unit proposal can be viewed online at www.middlesbrough.gov.uk/bsf or at a public exhibition to be held at the Berwick Hills Library on Crossfell Road until Monday, July 27.

Councillor Mike Carr, Middlesbrough Council’s executive member for children, families and learning, said: "Our young people deserve the very best education we can give them and the Building Schools for the Future programme is making that vision a reality.

"The Ashdale Pupil Referral Unit is another key element in this ambitious project and I’m delighted that it continues to make good progress.

"We are transforming the way our young people are educated and prepared for later life, and I would urge anyone with an interest to visit this important exhibition."
