Every town has its story. Morganville is run by the undead! Being a fan of supernatural novels and TV shows such as ITV2’s, well ‘Supernatural’, I had to take this one from the bookshelf.

Claire Danvers is at the bottom of the popularity scale and the popular (and highly psychotic) Monica and her posse are determined to make Claire’s life hell when she moves into a dorm at Texas Prairie University. She refuses to quit university and her only option is to move off campus. A newspaper advertisement leads her to become the new resident of the Glass House. Her new housemates are witty and lively and Claire starts to question whether she will really fit in. However, when night falls, they are all brought closer together to protect each other from the supernatural threat that lies on the dark streets of Morganville... (Pause for spooky sound effects).

The story is filled with action and mystery. Why does no one remember the town when they leave? Furthermore, Michael (Claire’s housemate and owner of the Glass House) has a compelling secret that he is keeping from his friends. Morganville has plenty of intriguing characters: good and bad, vampire and human. It is for these reasons this book has serious ‘unputdownability’!

Vampire novels seem to be taking over the world at the moment with the (need I say it?) Twilight Saga, now an infamous motion picture, and not forgetting the Sookie Stackhouse Vampire Mysteries novels, now known as the HBO TV series ‘True Blood’ soon to hit the UK on Channel 4 after premiering on FX. The Morganville Vampires series is definitely at the top with these titles when it comes to the Vampire novel spectrum. It has the action that Twilight lacks and the fast paced plot that leaves Sookie Stackhouse in second place. Twilight and Sookie Stackhouse appeal to both teens and adults, whereas Glass Houses is a book unfortunately not all adults would enjoy (I can’t see my mum enjoying this book). Claire’s character in particular might be difficult for some adults to identify with. This novel is definitely one for young adults.

Once you have finished reading Glass Houses you will certainly want to read the next instalment in the Morganville Vampires series. The huge cliffhanger you are left with leaves you desperate for more. I know I can’t wait for more Morganville mysteries and supernatural action!
