A SCHOOLGIRL can march to the beat of her favourite songs after winning a portable music player.

Becky Scott, a pupil at Sunnydale Community College, scooped a state of the art iPod touch at an Army careers event.

Presented by Serjeants (correct) Rob Williams and Reggie McKenzie, recruiters at Bishop Auckland Army Career Information Office (ACIO), the prize was in recognition of Becky’s participation at the Army Careers Exhibition.

More than 20,000 pupils traveled from across the North East and Yorkshire to Marne Barracks, in Catterick, to find out about careers in the forces. Becky said she was delighted with the prize and enjoyed the exhibition, particularly a virtual mission to simulate life as a soldier.

The 14 to 16-year-olds who took part in the event also sampled the high wire, laser shooting range and got behind the wheel of armoured vehicles.
