A COMMUNITY centre credited with reducing disorder on a housing estate has received a cash windfall to keep up its good work.

Ferryhill Town Council has donated £800 to the Ladder Centre on the Lakes estate, in Ferryhill.

Town mayor Eileen Martin presented the cheque to Deborah Smith from the centre to go towards running services for young people.

Police and community leaders have praised the Ladder Project- Lakes And District Education Resource Centre- which was founded by residents 12 years ago to tackle problems and support young people on the estate.

Activities it has ran include information technology courses, advice services, recreational facilities, youth groups, healthy living courses, motivational projects, a credit union and job search drop in.
