PUPILS from Bedale High School took part in an eight-mile sponsored walk to raise money for school funds.

The entire school - almost 600 pupils - took part in the event yesterday, with many pupils arriving in fancy dress.

After a breakfast of barbecued sausage sandwiches, the group set off through the footpaths in the villages around Bedale.

Lunch was taken in Snape, where many pupils enjoyed a cooling ice cream.

Pupils then completed the final stretch and returned back to school.

A school spokesman said: "Most pupils reported that they thoroughly enjoyed the day, despite having sore feet by the end.

"The school is very grateful to Vale of Mowbray for donating the sausages, Dalepack for the burgers and Richmond Ice cream for the ice- cream and ice lollies.

"We would also like to thank the inhabitants of Snape for their hospitality over lunch time."
