STEWARDS with more than 200 years of show duty between them were presented with awards.

They included husband and wife Beryl and Rob Andrews, with 27 years’ stewarding in the hive and honey section, and Christopher Curtis, of Bedale, North Yorkshire, who has been associated with the terrier section for 32 years.

Nigel Pulling, chief executive of the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, said: “Our stewards play an absolutely vital role in the smooth running of the show. They give of their time freely and we appreciate their work very much. It is not just on show days, but many help us in the preceding weeks and even months.”

He also thanked the Reverend Toddy Hoare, who has been honorary chaplain to the show since the early Eighties.

He was priest-in-charge at Knayton Parish Church, North Yorkshire, before he moved to Oxfordshire last year.
