A HOUSEBUILDING company has teamed up with a primary school to highlight the benefits of walking to school.

Yuill Homes’ Denewood development in Seaham, is next to Murton Community Primary School in Seaham, where school children walk past daily.

So Yuill worked with deputy head teacher Ashleigh Sheridan to mark Walk to School Week with a poster competition.

Pupils from reception to Year Six were invited to design a poster depicting an adventure on their way to school.

Twenty one lucky winners were shortlisted from 300 entries, with first, second and third places across each year group.

Hollie Cunningham in year six was awarded the overall top prize and her poster has been enlarged and displayed on the boundary wall at the Denewood development.

Lindsay Greenhalgh from Yuill Homes said: "Our Denewood development is so close to Murton Community Primary School.

"We wanted to work with teachers to get pupils thinking about their journey to and from school and the many benefits of going on foot – which is not only better for the environment, but is also healthier and great exercise for the kids.

"Yuill Homes works proactively with the local community and it was great to work with local children on this competition. I was delighted to see so many entries."
