THE TEENAGE girl rescued from a reservoir after becoming entangled in dinghy rigging has died in hospital, police confirmed today.

Victoria Wilkinson was in a critical condition in hospital following the tragedy which took the life of her father, 52-year-old Geoff Wilkinson, on Kielder Reservoir, in Northumberland, on Sunday.

He died in hospital after trying to rescue his 17-year-old daughter when she became entangled in rigging after their Laser Stratos dinghy flipped over, during a race organised by the Kielder Water Sailing Club, on Europe's largest man-made lake.

Mr Wilkinson, a father-of-three, and Victoria, both of Kirkwhelpington in Northumberland, were airlifted to Newcastle General Hospital after being pulled from the lake onto a rescue boat.

Northumbria Police said today that Victoria lost her fight for life at 1.15pm yesterday.

The Marine Accident Investigation branch is investigating the cause of the accident, which brought the first fatalities on the reservoir in its 28 year history as a leisure boating venue.
