A FULLY decorated Christmas tree complete with snow greeted visitors to this year's Flower Hall.

The novel idea, which included vegetables wrapped in fleece, saw the National Farmers' Union (NFU) win the supreme champoionship for the best entry for the third year running.

The stand showcased what Yorkshire horticultural growers have to offer right through the year. The winter garden featured the Christmas trees which provide farmer growers with a cash crop, horticultural fleeces which protect wintercrops, and wooden sheds perfect for growing mushrooms and winter rhubarb.

The summer garden featured a riot of colour and scents from plants and crops which are now at their best.

Mike Prest, member of the NFU's regional horticulture and potatoes board, said everything for the stand was supplied by growers in Yorkshire.

"This means that the spectacular stand we have been able to put together is a testament to the sheer quality of our local produce - produce that's readily available in the shops too," he said.
