A POPULAR police officer has left his rural beat after earning a transfer to a public protection role.
PC Lee Featherstone, who has worked in Bedale, North Yorkshire, for several years, has moved to North Yorkshire Police headquarters, at Newby Wiske, Northallerton.
He has taken up a role in the force’s public protection unit.
PC Featherstone was well respected in Bedale.
Sgt Stuart Grainger, of Bedale police, said PC Featherstone was noted for doing a lot of work in his own time.
He will be replaced in Bedale by PC Mark Wood, who will take up his post on August 1.
PC Wood will be working in Bedale for an initial three-month period.
Sgt Grainger has acknowledged the need for continuity for the town’s police office and said he would work to keep PC Wood on a more permanent basis.
