Your correspondent was surprised and delighted to receive a letter from Adrian Braddy, editor of the Teesdale Mercury recently.

In it he says "I am delighted to inform you that a picture of yours has been selected for next year's Teesdale Mercury Calendar. The standard and number of entries was very high this year, so making the top 12 is no mean feat".

The picture in question is a view of Whorlton bridge, taken early one Sunday morning in the autumn. It was one of the last I took using a conventional film camera.

The shot was taken from the public footpath about half way between Whorlton and Wycliffe, using a Canon A1 camera loaded with transparency film, fitted with a 200mm lens to shorten the perspective and pull the bridge out of the background.

It will be used for the October page.
