THE West Auckland carnival takes place on Saturday.

The event, which is held yearly on the Village Green, will be officially opened by councillors Andy Turner and Rob Yorke at 1pm, followed by a carnival queen parade and fancy dress judging.

Demonstrations scheduled for the afternoon include martial arts at 1.15pm, Teesdale Flyball dogs at 2pm, gymnastics at 2.45pm, and Bishop Auckland Junior Rugby Club at 3.30pm.

Other carnival attractions include children’s activities, fairground rides, a magician and ventriloquist, over 20 stalls, and refreshments.

Frank Hudson’s show trucks, and a fire engine will also be on show, and there will be tractor and trailer rides.

There will also be the opportunity for people to be photographed with West Auckland FC’s replica World Cup, as the club celebrates 100 years since winning the first ever World Cup - then known as the Sir Thomas Lipton Trophy - in 1909.
