A PUB in a rural village is looking to extend its opening hours to serve customers 24 hours a day but it has attracted criticism.

The Carlton Bore, at Carlton Husthwaite, near Thirsk, has entered the application with Hambleton District Council.

Licensee Scott Hessel has entered a multi-pronged application to the council.

The application seeks to allow live music every day from 11am to 1.30am and to allow alcohol to be consumed outside in a beer garden.

It also looks to extend the opening hours of Carlton Bore to 24 hours for residents only with it open to non-residents from 11am to 1.30am.

It finally asks to remove a ban on fireworks and pyrotechnics on the premises and to provide off sales of alcohol.

Some locals though are against the scheme due an increase in the noise levels and disturbances caused by fireworks and customers.

Some claim they live near the Carlton Bore and that they already suffer from customers of the pub causing noise and other problems.

A council report on the application for councillors states "Activities of customers away from the immediate neighbourhood of the premises are not relevant.

"The effect of any activities on the immediate neighbourhood in terms of public nuisance are relevant.

"Neighbours and Environmental Health feel that an increased use of the outside areas will lead to a public nuisance and there is no way to overcome this."

The council does plan to put conditions on the applicant if it approves the scheme which is up before the district council’s licensing hearings panel on Wednesday, July 15.

No-one was available at the Carlton Bore at the time of going to press.
