FESTIVAL season is underway - and the countdown has begun to North Yorkshire’s own mini-Glastonbury and annual youth art festival.

CultureShock is now in its eight year and is expected to attract thousands of young people between July 2 and 4.

This year it is moving from its old Northallerton base to the Pickering showground, allowing new audiences to enjoy it..

Free buses will transport young people from youth centres across the county for the show so they can take part in over 26 different arts based workshops such as dance, drama, graffiti, film and animation.

A wide range of music tastes will be catered for with dozens of bands offering rap in the hip-hop tent to new bands in the 6k Vision tent and acoustic performers in the Acoustic Chillout Café.

The event is produced by Connecting Youth Culture, part of North Yorkshire County Council’s 4Youth service, and is intended to allow young people to attend a festival in a safe drug and alcohol-free environment before they venture on to other bigger festivals elsewhere. Ticket prices are £6 on the door or £5.50 in advance. The box office can be contacted on 01609-533495.
