AMATEUR photographers are being invited to enter a countywide photography competiton aimed at helping to raise public awareness of the achievements of people with learning disabilities.

The competition is being organised by North Yorkshire County Council, with the overall winner receiving £200 worth of vouchers to spend on photography equipment.

Prizes for runners- up include a watch and a weekend pass to a health club.

The winning photographs will be framed by people with learning disabilities and displayed in exhibitions throughout North Yorkshire in the autumn.

County Councillor Chris Metcalfe, executive member for adult and community services, said: "We are delighted to be launching this competition.

"It will be a celebration of the diverse talents and achievements of people with learning disabilities."

Entries must be received by September 1 and should be sent to: Communications, Adult and Community Services, North Block, County Hall, Northallerton, DL7 8AD.

Photographs should be clearly marked on the reverse with the entrants name, address and e-mail address if appropriate.
