TWO vets have taken part in a zip wire challenge from the Tyne Bridge in aid of a school for children with cerebral palsy.

Emanuel Ionutescu, 33, and Viorel Doran, 32, of the Consett Veterinary Centre in Consett, County Durham, raised £288 each for the Percy Hedley Foundation in Newcastle.

They were inspired to take part by receptionist Margaret Laverton, whose seven-year-old son Daniel Morton, attends the school.

Miss Laverton said: "I am really thankful they have stepped forward to help and with the contributions of our clients.

"My son attended mainstream school, but was not getting the attention he needed.

"He has a rare form of cerebral palsy. He had been attending Percy Hedley Foundation for two years now and they have done so much for him."

Ms Laverton said the Percy Hedley Foundation’s Tim Carter Appeal, in association with the Sunderland Football Club, had set out to raise funds to build a hydrotherapy pool on the Percy Hedley Senior School and Sports Academy.

The money raised by the veterinary practice will go towards this appeal. Collection tins in the practice have raised more than £300 so far.

Anyone who would like to contribute towards the appeal should contact the foundation on 0191-266 5491 or email school@percy hedley.org.uk.
