OPEN GARDENS: A total of 12 houses in Newton-le-Willows will take part in an open gardens event on Sunday, July 5, from 2pm to 5pm. Proceeds in aid of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and village hall funds. Home made teas will be served from 1.30pm. Admission costs £3.50 for adults and £1 for children aged eight to 16.

CHURCH SERVICE: Morning Worship at Northallerton United Reformed Church will be led by Lesley Bustard, at 10am, on Sunday. Evening Worship, at 6pm, will take the form of a Bible Study, led by the Reverend Malcolm Smith.

FORCES DAY: An Armed Forces Day event will take place in Richmond Town Hall, on Saturday, from 2pm to 4pm. The purpose of the event is for the town to show its appreciation to those men and women who have served their country in the past. Admission if free. Cakes, coffee and tea will be provided. SUMMER FAIR: Richmond Operatic Society holds its summer fair at the operatic hall in Newbiggin, on Saturday, from 9am to 12.30pm. Attractions include a table-top- sale, household goods, bric-a-brac, plants, tombola and ex-wardrobe stock. Admission is free. For details, call 01748-832092.

SCHOOL EVENT: Richmond CE Primary School held its annual summer fair on Saturday, June 6. It was organised by Force, the school’s parent-teacher group. The fair was opened by Margaret Emmerson, who with 38 years service, is the school's longest serving member of staff and a firm favourite with the children. Despite a very wet start to the day, the fair was well attended, with Richmond's mayor, Councillor David Gillson and his wife assisting with raffle draws. More than £2,700 was raised on the day which will help fund trips, equipment and a new vegetable garden for the children. The group would like to thank everyone who supported the fair.

CHARITY AUCTION: Leeming Under Fives is holding an auction of promises, next Tuesday, at 7.30pm, at the White Rose Hotel, Leeming Bar to raise funds for the local play group. Items for auction include family days out, pampering sessions, toys and a £50 holiday voucher to raffle, courtesy of Travel Lounge, Bedale.

FOOTBALL AWARDS: Bedale Football Club held its annual presentation recently, in the Three Coopers pub. The following awards were made: player of the season - Matthew Goodwin; players’ player of the season - Daniel Carrick; young player of the season -Dean Hudson; leading goal scorer - Kyle Jackson; Joe Noone award for outstanding achievement - Stephen Dawson. Chairman Martyn Coombs congratulated all the recipients and looked forward to next season, when the club will be fielding two senior teams.

DOMINO DRIVE: A domino drive, in support of Herriot Hospice Homecare, will be held in the Old Schoolroom, in Patrick Brompton, at 7.30pm, on Sunday. Cards cost £1.50. Refreshments included.

SUMMER FAIR: Aiskew, Leeming Bar CE Primary School holds its summer fete on Saturday, July 11, from noon to 3pm. Attractions at the ‘healthy living’ themed fete include a children’s obstacle course, bouncy castle, dog agility display, coconut shy, tombola, smoothie stall.
