A NINE-YEAR-OLD boy was airlifted to hospital with suspected head and leg injuries after being hit by a car while walking home from school yesterday.
The incident happened close to the junction of Catterick Road and Vicarage Road, in Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire, at about 3.40pm.
He was hit by a silver Hyundai car and taken by air ambulance to the James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough.
The boy is understood to be a pupil at Le Cateau Community Primary School, on the Army base.
More information about his condition is not known at present.
The accident is the second serious incident involving a school student in the Richmondshire district this month.
Sixteen-year-old Aaron Crockett, a pupil at Richmond School, was also airlifted to hospital after being hit by a bus outside the school on Thursday, June 4.
He later said he felt "lucky to be alive", while his mother, Lisa Miller, called for the 30mph speed limit outside the school to be reduced.
