CHILDREN at RAF Leeming Community Primary School got a road safety lesson from a star of TV.

Spike the Hedgehog dropped into the school to give the children a lesson in road safety awareness.

Corporal Glen Martin had the idea with Kevin Pratt, a road safety officer for Hambleton District Council.

The pair thought it would be the perfect way to get the road safety awareness message across to younger children.

It also supported the multi-agency ’95 Alive road safety initiative recently launched at the air base.

The school caters for 212 pupils aged between five and 11 years old.

Headteacher Caroline Potter said: "The children were very excited to see Spike, and I am sure they will all remember the important ‘Stop, Look, Listen and Think’ message."

After a short presentation Spike was able to pose with children and staff while handing out miniature hedgehogs as a reminder of his visit.
