A FANCY dress company has seen a surprise upturn in business, despite the recession.

Although it might have been thought the economic downturn would spell the end for parties and jovial celebrations, Premier Party has found quite the opposite to be true.

The firm, founded in Sutton Street, Durham, in 2001, has opened a new branch in the city’s Indoor Market.

Founder and owner Sarah Webb said: "The one thing we’ve learnt is that the people of Durham certainly know how to throw a good party.

"Despite the recent economic downturn, this has certainly not been reflected in our sales and our customers are definitely still coming - it is almost as if people are showing an even greater interest in having a good time, especially throughout this recession."

The Premier Party stall replaces the long-standing Jokers shop, which closed to its owner retiring a few weeks ago.

Ms Webb said: "It’s great to finally be able to get such a fantastic position within the market.

"The new store, Market Fancy Dress, is already attracting great trade and we are confident that the business will continue to go from strength to strength in coming months.

"Throwing a good party is the perfect antidote to recessional depression and we’re glad to be here to help."
