POLICE have made a renewed appeal for witnesses to a collision in which a woman was killed by a cement mixer.

Azim Kasai, 32, who was living in the Thornhill area of Sunderland, was hit by a cement mixer in the incident which happened close to Green Terrace at around 12.30pm on Wedndesday, January 21.

She was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital for treatment where she later died of her injuries.

Police are hoping to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision and are especially keen to speak to three workmen who left the scene in a large wagon shortly before police arrived.

Sgt Andy Shotton of Northumbria Police said: "From our initial enquiries it is clear that there were large numbers of pedestrians in the area at the time of the accident who we would like to come forward.

"We would also be particularly keen to hear from a group of three workmen who were at the scene in a large wagon."
