THE INTERNATIONALLY renowned Syd Lawrence Orchestra will play to a sellout audience at Durham’s Gala Theatre with a breathtaking concert of music billed as Strictly Big Band on Saturday.
Presented by Britain's foremost Big Band leader Chris Dean, whose leadership seamlessly combines warm and humorous rapport with the audience with the fantastic music of the swing era.
From Syd's faultless transcriptions of the Glenn Miller repertoire, through to the hits of Count Basie, Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald, the orchestra will also be joined by guest vocalist Angie Mills and vocal group, The Serenaders.
Having recently been voted "Best Band in the Land" for the eleventh consecutive year, the orchestra features seasoned big band musicians alongside a younger generation of artists who bring a new enthusiasm and energy to this great genre of music. Their recent Strictly Big Band album has been endorsed by some of the most respected names in the big band world.
