THREE big-hearted police officers have raised more than £1,000 to help a brave little girl.

Six-year-old Naomi Savage, from Northallerton, North Yorkshire, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in May 2007.

Naomi’s Fight For Life Fund was set up to raise awareness and support research into this type of cancer.

PCs Janie Knowles and Nick Arthur, as well as Inspector Jane Sanderson, all of North Yorkshire Police, raised a combined £1,100 by taking part in a half-marathon, in Leeds, last September.

The three presented a cheque to Naomi last week.

Insp Sanderson said: "We all wanted to do something to help Naomi and between us thought it would be great to run a half-marathon but to raise money as well.

"Although it was tough, we thought of what Naomi had gone through which kept us going.

"It was as absolute privilege to run for her.

"She is a tremendously brave little girl who has won the hearts of many people and is an inspiration to us all."

Naomi has had numerous operations and was recently given the all-clear.

She will be carefully monitored in the future.
