PICTURE SHOWS: Two films will be shown at Hambleton Forum, in Northallerton, on Friday February 6 - as part of the "First Friday" cinema programme, which sees films shown on the first Friday of each month. At 5.30pm is ‘The Fox and the Child (U) – the story of a girl who wins the confidence of a local wild fox. It will be followed, at 7.30pm, by ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’ (12A), the story of a boy whose father is promoted to Nazi commandant of a concentration camp. Tickets for each showing cost £3 and can be purchased at the door.

DANCE NIGHT: A modern, old time and sequence dance, featuring organist Graeme Scarlett, will take place at Hambleton Forum, in Northallerton, on Wednesday, February 18, between 8pm and 11.30pm. CHURCH SERVICE: The service at St Peter’s Church, in Birkby, near Northallerton, on Sunday, will be morning prayer, led by Mrs Di Pownall.

CABARET NIGHT: A cabaret and dinner, in aid of the Great North Air Ambulance, will be held at the Forester’s Arms, in Carlton, Coverdale, near Leyburn, on February 2, starting at 7pm. The event will be headlined by folk singer Maurice Grumbleweed. Tickets cost £25. Call 01969-640272.

ROAD CLOUSRE: Drivers in the Hambleton area are being warned of the temporary closure of Moor Lane, near Nosterfield Quarry, between Ripon and Bedale, between tomorrow and Saturday. This is to allow construction works to take place.
