AN amateur dramatic group is taking to the stage with two Ronnies but it won’t be a goodnight from me and a goodnight from him.

Durham Dramatic Society is staging Terrence Rattigan’s The Winslow Boy, which tells the true story of a young naval cadet, Ronnie Winslow, who was accused of stealing a postal order and the affect the allegation had on him and his family as they fight to clear his name.

The production will run at the Durham City Theatre in Fowlers Yard, in the heart of the cathedral city, from Sunday to Saturday February 8 to 14.

The group has had to cast two boys in the part because of laws that restrict the hours that children can work.

Ben Casling, 11, whose father Tom will have a part in the production, and his friend Jon Evison, 12, will take to the stage on alternate nights.

Group spokesman Alwyn Priestnall said: "Legislation governing the use of children in the theatre means that the role will be played alternately by Ben and Jon. Ben will open at the matinee performance on Sunday February 8,at 2.30pm, with Jon opening on Monday's performance.

"In a further twist Ben's father Tom Casling is also in the play the first time father and son have starred in a DDS production.

Tickets cost £6 and are available from Durham Tourist Centre, Millennium Place, Claypath. Evening performance start at 7.30pm and there is a 2.30pm matinee on Sunday February 8.
