TWO teenagers have been found guilty of attempted murder after a frenzied, humiliating attack on a 16-year-old girl.

Danielle Moore, 19, was sentenced to 10 years in prison and Nicola Dawson, also 19, will serve six years behind bars.

Moore, collapsed in the dock when the guilty verdict was announced at Teesside Crown Court today.

Passing sentence, Judge Peter Fox QC described the attack as "shocking".

He said: “You were both drunk, because you had nothing else to do, and it affords you no excuse.

“This was a savage and malicious attack which humiliated your victim in appalling circumstances.

“She fought for her life, that life or death struggle forced her to break the blade which you were so intent on driving into her chest.

“This is bullying of the worst kind.”

Both Moore and Dawson, of, Thornaby, had admitted wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm on July 20, last year, but denied attempted murder.

The court heard how the victim had been punched, stabbed and forced to strip naked during the assault on the banks on the River Tees.

The teenager managed to flee the pair and was found by police wandering the streets in a state of deep shock.

The hysterical and blood-covered girl ran towards a passing patrol van and told officers: “They tried to kill me.”

She was taken to hospital to be treated for multiple knife wounds and told police the names of her attackers – onetime friend Moore, and Dawson.

It emerged that the attack took place after a row with the girl after she lost Moore's bag, which contained a photograph and top belonging to her deceased boyfriend.

Judge Fox said:” The victim is left physically scared and mentally scared, her victim impact statement discloses a sorry plight.

“Moore you were the instigator in this, the driving force behind it all.”
