BUDDING environmentalists are being sought for a council project which has just been given a cash boost.

Great Aycliffe Town Council was recently awarded £10,000 from the National Lottery’s Awards for All scheme.

The money is to develop an environment centre in Moore Lane Park where people can learn about the local wildlife and countryside.

In addition the town council is looking for voluntary countryside wardens to undertake conservation work across the town.

Environment officer, Steve Cooper, said: "The award is a massive boost. Funding from the town council and assistance from Sedgefield Borough Council’s Local Improvement Programme has paid for the renovations at the centre, but this money will allow us to buy key educational material to get the centre off the ground, interpretation boards to improve the town’s nature reserves and additional promotional material for the project, plus most of the tools and equipment to support the new volunteer service."
