A SUCCESSFUL scheme, which aims to improve neighbourhoods across Hartlepool is to take to the streets again Operation Cleansweep tackles issues relating to the local environment, roads, street lighting and community safety.

Next week Hartlepool Council, Cleveland Police, Housing Hartlepool and Cleveland Fire Brigade, will join forces under the banner of the Safer Hartlepool Partnership to target the Throston Grange estate.

Work will start on Monday and continue until Friday A drop-in event is to be held at Throston Grange Branch Library, in Glamorgan Grove, on Tuesday, from 10.30am to 12 noon where free crime prevention equipment and personal safety products, including property marking kits, will be available.

Staff will also be signing up residents to the Ringmaster neighbourhood watch initiative.

Improvement works around the estate will include re-painting of road markings, identifying potholes needing repair and preventative maintenance, the replacement and cleaning of street nameplates, gully cleansing, street cleansing, graffiti removal and litter picks.

Parking enforcement patrols will be in the area and environmental enforcement officers will be patrolling to clampdown on irresponsible dog owners, fly-tippers and people who drop litter.

The decision to target Throston Grange follows the launch of a Neighbourhood Action Plan (NAP) for the area.

NAPs aim to identify the main issues and priorities facing neighbourhoods and to establish what action is needed to make them better places to live.
