YOUNGSTERS without support enjoyed a happy Christmas time thanks to donations from locals and Thirsk Clock.

The Thirsk Clock youth centre, in Thirsk market place, opened on Christmas Day to provide dinners for youngsters.

Staff served 47 hot meals on Christmas Eve and 12 youngsters spent most of Christmas Day in the youth centre.

A further 25 teenagers were given a food hamper and provided with heating and power over the festive period.

One youngster said: "I was dreading Christmas on my own. Instead I’ve spent the whole week at the Clock feeling part of something.

"I can’t believe how lucky we have been. I’ve had lots to eat, money for gas and electric and some food to take home."

Abigail Homer McGhie, manager of Thirsk Clock, said: "We were very pleased to get all of the support we did to help the youngsters."
