PLANS are in place to create a scheme for youngsters to learn about wildlife within the North York Moors.

The Hedgehog Club has been created up by the North York Moors National Park Authority.

Youngsters from the Glaisdale Play Group are piloting the scheme and they will have six sessions focusing on a different animal each time.

Tammy Andrews, an authority volunteer leader, said: "National parks and the countryside in general are fantastic playgrounds for young and enquiring minds.

"Through story telling and activities we will be teaching the children about the creatures that live in the North York Moors.

"We will also tell them about respect for the environment and how they can care for our wildlife for future generations to enjoy."

Janet Houlston, from Glaisdale Play Group, said: "It’s great for the children to have people from the community coming in on a regular basis."
