On Thursday the 27th of November I went to see the Mighty Boosh live at Newcastle. It was amazing. The genius comedy of the show was so funny and the odd bit of improvisation for when things went wrong just made it so much better. The show was in two parts, the first a very long but hilarious introduction and the second part was when Howard Moon (played by Julian Barrat) tried to actually give the show a serious image and took over to turn it into a play about ‘serious issues’.

The introduction of the show was brilliant, a typical Mighty Boosh crimp with a bit touch of comedy. The song came on everybody screamed the lights started flashing and Vince Noir (played by Noel Fielding) came on in a yacht with, complete with a disco ball, singing to the song with everybody loving every minute of it. That was then followed by Howard in a little inflatable dingy, later complaining that he had to blow it up by himself. This then went on to introduce all the characters who would be in the show until the interval.

After the interval the ‘serious business’ came when Howard took control making himself the centre of attention only for the show to be taken over again by Vince due to be blackmailed over a rather embarrassing photo shoot, giving Vince the power to control the whole show with his ridiculous new script that had been rushed in crayon. The ending to the show was the best part. It included alot of crimping and a standing ovation from the audience.

The audience participation was very good but was only planned to happen on two occasions. One where Bob Fossil (played by Rich Fulcher) taught us his special dance and another when the Hitcher (also played by Noel Fielding) came into the audience to introduce himself also giving him the opportunity to mock the unfortunate people who got seats at the back by asking them if they had brought their telescope. However an unexpected bit of audience participation did happen when Noel Fielding congratulated a member of the audience on his brilliant Mod Wolf costume that included LED eyes.

Overall the show was amazing and I think it was worth the money I paid for it. The Mighty Boosh is way better live than on TV. The Mighty Boosh is just like marmite, you either like it or you don’t. If you do then the show I saw was them at their best and I would recommend anybody to watch it.
