VISITORS to a stately home this weekend are being treated to a festive event inspired by bygone eras.

Christmas Past and Christmas Presents is running at Kiplin Hall, near Scorton.

The event, which closes today, offers visitors the chance to view festive decorations inspired by the Georgian and Victorian periods, as well as the Forties.

A total of 12 rooms around the house, which dates back to the 1620s, are decorated in the styles of Christmases past.

The decorations were created by local groups and volunteers at the hall.

A spokeswoman said the annual event is successful, despite bad weather on Friday.

She said: "Despite the weather on Friday, we had quite a lot of intrepid souls here.

"Yesterday, we had even more.

"It has been great, a big success."

Today's attractions include performances by the Northallerton Handbell Ringers and harpsichord player Michael Rudd.

A Christmas shop, selling hand-made festive gifts, is also available.
