POLICE are appealing for help after two burglaries in the same village.

Both raids took place in Welbury, near Northallerton, and the first happened during the week leading up to November 18.

Burglars broke in to an unoccupied property by smashing a window before stealing a number of items of jewellery, silverware and pottery.

The second raid happened early on the evening of last Saturday, November 29, after the owners had gone out for the night.

The burglars broke in through a patio door and took an amount of cash along with antiques and jewellery.

Officers are appealing for anyone who has noticed any suspicious activity in the village over the past few weeks or can provide any information relating to either of the break-ins to get in touch.

Anyone who can help is asked to call Northallerton CID on 0845 6060 247 or call Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111.

Police are also advising residents to take simple security measures, including locking all doors and windows - even when at home.

*Keep ladders and other items which can aid access to first floors locked away.

*Fit security lights to your property and good quality locks on sheds and outbuildings.

*Don’t leave valuables on display, especially Christmas presents under the tree.

*Keep keys and handbags away from doors and windows
